HealthConnect's Dedication to Being Green Pays Off in Savings
Norwalk, CT - February 25, 2010 - Since starting its company-wide green program in October 2008, HealthConnect Systems has made not only its mark on the environment but also on its savings. The company originally launched its green program to extend the benefits package for their employees and to work together to reduce the carbon footprint required to operate the company to zero.

Through this program, the company would adopt environmentally friendly practices and would compensate employees for doing the same. A year after launching the program, HealthConnect saved over $20,000 despite the cost associated with the program. For a chart of savings, click here.

In addition to putting green initiatives into practice, HealthConnect launched a green blog and recently started a quarterly green newsletter.

"We have received a great response and involvement from the employees when we launched the program," said Peter Everett, HealthConnect President and CEO. "Within the first few weeks of launching the program, a significant number of employees signed up for a program that reduces junk mail, dedicated efforts to recycling and making our offices paperless and overall became creative in reducing their carbon footprint. We have employees taking public transportation, buying energy efficient products and even looking into wind energy for their homes."

The results of the program have been better than expected despite the financial cost to launch the program. The cost of the program included a purchase of two hybrid cars for the company sales team, the financial incentives offered by the company to promote environmentally beneficial behavior changes by its employees in their personal lives (all of which are optional by employees on whether to participate); and from financial contributions by the company and its employees toward greenhouse gas emission reduction projects.
