Colonial Life & Accident Insurance Company Chosen as Voluntary Benefits and Enrollment Provider for HealthConnect Systems in California

COLUMBIA, S.C. (October 26, 2006) — Colonial Life & Accident Insurance Company has been selected as the voluntary benefits provider and the benefits communication and enrollment team for HealthConnect Systems in California, the leading online network for buyers and sellers of health insurance and employee benefits. “Our relationship with HealthConnect Systems brings several advantages to insurance brokers in California,” says Ryan Whittaker, a Colonial sales representative in Orange County, Calif. “Colonial can help brokers develop voluntary benefits strategies for their clients and deliver new and creative benefits solutions. We can also provide brokers with a local, professional team to conduct effective benefits communication and enrollments for their clients.”

Voluntary Benefits Expertise
Colonial provides a broad portfolio of individual and group insurance products to help round out an employer’s benefits offerings: short-term disability, accident, cancer, critical illness, hospital confinement indemnity and life insurance. “Smart businesses understand that the money they spend on health care benefits is a worthwhile investment,” Whittaker says. “A comprehensive benefits package can help companies compete in attracting the best workers and help control costs related to employee turnover. Voluntary benefits are an ideal and affordable part of the solution.”

Effective Benefits Communication and Enrollments
Colonial’s voluntary benefits and enrollment services will enhance the offerings HealthConnect Systems provides brokers. At no direct cost to brokers or employers, Colonial’s professional team can conduct face-to-face, enroller-assisted enrollments for Colonial products only or for core enrollments that include Colonial products. “For core enrollments, our enrollers will communicate and enroll employees face-to-face in their core benefits selections through HealthConnect Systems,” Whittaker says. “Employees will be able to enroll in both their core benefits and select additional voluntary benefits at one time.”

Effective benefits communication rounds out the enrollment experience for employees. Along with enrolling employees in their benefits selections for the initial enrollment, new hires and annual re-enrollments, Colonial’s enrollers can help employees understand their benefits and the value of what their employer provides. Benefits statements and salary illustrations are just a few of the tools that aid the communication process.

“We’re looking for Colonial to be our feet on the street in the California brokerage community,” says Edward Buck, Director of Western Region for HealthConnect Systems. “Colonial’s benefits communication capabilities are a perfect fit with our HRConnect system. In particular, we like the way Colonial’s team can help employees enroll in their core benefits, as well as train a company’s benefits administrators on how to use HRConnect.”

Worksite Marketing Experience
Colonial brings a long history of worksite marketing experience to its relationship with HealthConnect Systems. “In addition to our local, professional teams in California, we have a 1,500-member national enrollment team certified to work with large accounts or in multi-state, regional or national accounts,” Whittaker says. “We have the capabilities and flexibility to provide the same level of quality service to accounts of any size and structure.” Colonial currently works with 50,000 accounts nationwide, ranging from businesses with as few as five employees up to national organizations with more than 100,000.

“Colonial’s relationship with HealthConnect Systems will help the California brokerage community deliver a variety of solutions for the benefits challenges employers face,” says Whittaker. “As experts on voluntary benefits product and enrollment trends, we have access to the latest products and services. Plus, we can provide solid resources for enrollment capabilities, as well as local, ongoing service after the initial enrollment.”
