Aetna Introduces Real-Time Quoting for Mid-Sized Groups; Agents in Mid-Atlantic Can Quote Rates in Minutes

KING OF PRUSSIA, Pa., Nov. 6 /PRNewswire/ -- Aetna (NYSE: AET - News) announced today that it has launched the TriZetto HealthMarkets Broker Portal in its Mid-Atlantic Region, giving insurance agents the ability to create on-line insurance quotes for mid-sized employers in real time.

The on-line quoting system can be used to quote benefits and rates for employers with between 51 and 99 employees. A paper-driven process that used to take two to four days has been reduced to a few minutes.

"Previously, brokers would have to obtain all the necessary census information from a company, submit a proposal to Aetna, and then wait a couple of days for a formal proposal," says Patrick Young, Aetna's Mid-Atlantic Region general manager for employer groups with between 51 and 300 members. "Now, a broker will be able to enter the census data, and quote rates and benefits almost immediately."

The product is available in Delaware, Pennsylvania, Southern New Jersey, Maryland, Virginia and Washington, D.C. There are plans to include life insurance and dental quoting in the next few months, Young said.

"Aetna's Internet-based distribution technology can give agents a competitive advantage," Young said. "By eliminating manual tasks, we're giving brokers more time to focus on selling new business and servicing existing ones."

By automating everyday rating, quoting and proposal tasks, TriZetto's HealthMarkets Broker Portal enables brokers to efficiently quote Aetna business 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

"Aetna's web-based rating system has allowed us to provide a professional-quality proposal to our customers faster and more efficiently," said John Nichols, president of Howe Benefits, Princeton, N.J. "It is further evidence of Aetna's superior technology in a highly competitive health insurance market."

Aetna is one of the nation's leading providers of health care and related group benefits, serving approximately 13.9 million medical members, 11.9 million dental members and 11.7 million group insurance customers, as of September 30, 2002. The company has expansive nationwide networks of more than 539,000 health care services providers, including over 327,000 primary care and specialist physicians and 3,300 hospitals.
